The government and unions agree to improve the working conditions of firefighters

The agreement to improve the working conditions of firefighters at Generalitat is already a reality, and their participation was record-breaking. 88.5% of workers participated in the vote, of which 66.8% decided to sign the agreement (1289 people).

Consensus has arrived after months of negotiations between the social faction and the Ministry of the Interior, avoiding a previous situation of conflict and mobilization, a trend that until now has been the norm.

UGT, CCOO, IAC-CATAC, Intersindical and CSIF are the five firefighter federations that have signed up to improve body conditions. It should be noted that the last agreement, corresponding to 2019, was opposed by one of the unions.

Measures to reduce gender inequality and improve reconciliation

The agreements establish a range of measures to reduce gender inequality in the force and facilitate reconciliation between firefighters and firefighters. Among the gender policies, the extension of maternity and paternity leave or adoption leave to single-parent families stands out; adaptation of the workplace due to pregnancy or lactation; More time flexibility for work-life balance reasons until children reach 14 and recoverable hours for women with endometriosis or painful menstruation that temporarily disrupts their productivity.

An internal advertising campaign helped promote the inclusion of women in the fire department.

The agreement also provides for measures to reconcile personal and family life, making schedule management and working hours more flexible. In this sense, a body professional career plan will be applied; A comprehensive occupational hazard prevention system will be implemented; A staggered complement will be created to compensate for the time between the end of one shift with another and employees will be compensated as night workers.

In order to reach the number of 3,300 fire department members in 2026 and 3,600 in 2030, the current annual call rate of 250 professionals will continue. In addition, invitations for the occupational categories of corporal, sergeant, officer and sub-inspector will be published every two years until the number has stabilized to ensure current needs.
